The book blends the areas of adaptive inverse control and signal processing in ways not presented in any other book, allowing engineers in both fields to share tools and techniques. In the words of one reviewer, "The philosophy is quite refreshing and should entice signal processing specialists to delve more into control, and control theorists to revisit many of their current assumptions and methodologies." Clearly and intuitively written, the book presents theory, but its emphasis is on practical applications and common sense understanding. Most chapters include a summary at its end as a way of consolidating the information presented. The book's first chapter features an overview of the book's contents written to use jargon only sparingly (and always explaining it where used). The book enables signal processing people to solve control problems and teaches signal processing methods, particularly adaptive signal processing, and makes them available to control engineers. There is no other book that does control and signal processing as this book does. Theory is presented, but the emphasis is on practical applications and common sense understanding. The ideas are presented to appeal to the intuition. Insight and intuition are often hard to find in the control and signal-processing literature. Defeating obscurity was one of the main objectives of the authors in writing the text.
